As many of you know, The California Endowment (TCE) has
selected City Heights as one of 14 communities in which it will focus
significant resources over the next 10 years through its Building
Healthy Communities Initiative. Please find below ways for residents
and organizations to get involved in the next steps of this exciting initiative.
And don't forget to check out our new Healthy City Heights blog for what's
new!: healthycityheights.blogspot.com.
On April 15, 11 residents and 6 alternates were drawn from random from a group of 83 interested volunteers on the steps of the City Heights library to serve on the Resident Selection Committee, which met on May 4 and 11 to select the members of the Oversight Committee. The organizations selected for this Oversight Committee are below. The Planning Oversight Committee The purpose of the Oversight Committee was to assist Mid-City CAN in developing the detailed plan of activities and budget necessary for a successful 9-month planning process. Organizations selected by the Resident Selection Committee to participate on the Oversight Committee selected one representative to attend three meetings through the end of May. The following 11 organizations have been chosen to participate on this committee; please click each organization's name to view its Oversight Committee application.
Submitting The California Endowment Proposal On April 30, Mid-City CAN submitted the draft proposal requested by
TCE to review our work to date and begin processing of the 9-month planning
grant funds. This draft served as a placeholder until more detailed
decisions were made by the Planning Oversight Committee during their
meetings May 18, 26, and June 1, which resulted in the detailed
planning process proposal approved by the Mid-City CAN Coordinating
Council on June 2. Spanish,
Somali,
and Vietnamese
translations are now available. Thank you to the many organizations that submitted a list of their current activities under each of the TCE-identified outcomes, and to the 47 organizations below that have submitted support letters for this proposal. It is not too late to send us a support letter! Please email it to midcitycan@gmail.com. Click on the links below to view the letters.
Guiding Principles of Resident Engagement for Momentum Teams now available in English, Burmese, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese! House meeting leaders, momentum teams, and resource teams met on August 20 to finalize resident engagement plans. The result was consensus on a comprehensive set of resident engagement guidelines for momentum teams to use in their work with residents. Guidelines were the result of combined input from six separate resident engagement plans; one from each momentum team and one from house meetings leaders. These plans were all combined through the Institute of Cultural Affairs process into one final document that incorporated the best of each plan and allowed for maximum flexibility in serving our diverse community. The Mid City CAN Coordinating Council Building Healthy Communities Subcommittee reached consensus on these guidelines August 24, 2009.
