OUR VISION

Latinos y Latinas en Acción is a successful, vibrant, self-sufficient and self-directed coalition of community residents working to promote change. Members actively participate in Mid-City’s civic and political processes; and we are well respected by the governing bodies at the city, county, state, and federal levels.

 OUR MISSION

The mission of Latinos y Latinas en Acción is to lead, support and channel the various efforts the Latino community undertakes to improve the quality of life of our families and community and influence the civic and political process that affect Mid-City.

 Program Description

Latinos and Latinas en Acción (LLEA) recruits its members with two goals in mind:

  • To come together as a community and identify the basic needs that impact our families -- such as affordable healthy housing, immigrant rights, access to health care, fair paying jobs and quality education for their children.
  • To have the LLEA membership participate in activities and actions geared towards addressing those basic needs.

Through a variety of trainings, members learn the skills needed to advocate for different issues that affect the life of the community.  The trainings include leadership development, community organizing and advocacy, personal growth, and the impact racism and oppression have on the daily lives of the members.

This year, the priority areas for LLEA are:

We know that other groups are also working on these issues and we believe it is important to offer and receive support in our search for solutions.  We look for opportunities to partner with other groups with similar values and goals.

Any and all people interested in improving their quality of life and that of their own communities can become members of LLEA and contribute their efforts.
