Mid-City CAN's Peace Promotion Momentum Team has done work all over the County of San Diego. Here are a few of the press pieces that have recently been published on their work:
San Diego Union Tribune:
"The City Heights Restorative Community Conference Pilot Project allows minors who’ve committed crimes — such as battery, theft, domestic violence or vandalism — to work toward repairing the harm they’ve caused others as well as themselves, often by speaking with victims in person. Plans of action may also include community service, drug and alcohol classes, after-school programs and restitution."
"The City Heights Restorative Community Conference Pilot Project takes qualified youth offenders and puts them in face-to-face meetings with their victims and community stakeholders. Together, the parties work out customized plans designed to repair the harm done to victims, families and the community, as well as the offenders themselves."
"Young people who commit crimes in City Heights are getting a second chance as part of a program that’s offering an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system."
"Terrorist attacks in Paris, Beirut, the likely downing of a Russian airliner by terrorists. It was against that backdrop that a gathering for peace took place in San Diego Tuesday night. The annual "stand together for peace" was held in Officer Jeremy Henwood Park in City Heights."
Mid-City CAN's Peace Promotion Momentum Team was created by City Heights residents who wanted to foster a safe, fair, and thriving community. The team is now expanding to include many other organizations and community partners who are helping us accomplish that goal.
In the words of PPMT members: "We are committed City Heights residents and their partners in the community, education, law enforcement and legislative systems. We are dedicated to organizing, empowering and mobilizing others for the sustainable and systemic promotion of compassionate, peaceful and responsive change through restorative practices and restorative justice."
