Youth Council

The Mid-City CAN Youth Council (MCCAN YC) develops and empowers City Heights youth through community organizing. We’re a little different from other youth groups in the sense that we don’t focus primarily on the delivery of direct social-services or activities.
Our goal is to organize City Heights in order to advocate for changes that improve the community. Over the past year, our members (high school-aged youth who live in City Heights) have been involved in helping create the Community Plan for The California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities Initiative. We worked alongside adult residents and non-profit representatives in the Mid-City CAN Momentum Teams (Access to Healthcare, Built Community, Food Justice, Peace Promotion, Resident, and School Attendance) to help build the Community Plan. As we move forward, we are working closely with our community partners to develop social consciousness and empowerment among our peers.
