Youth Council Summer Artivism Program

To complete enrollment email: [email protected]

A fun and informative 10-week Youth-Power Curriculum centered on youth leadership and activism. This hybrid curriculum explores how art is used to tell the stories of our communities and the important role it plays in our history and social justice movements.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about several famous social justice artists including Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Frida Kahlo, and Basquiat (to name a few) whose art has helped to memorialize important social movements, political moments, and the experiences of people of color. In addition, students will also learn the fundamentals of government systems: how government works, advocacy, policy, and leadership.

Participating students will have the opportunity to visit Balboa Park's newly renovated art museums and cultural public art exhibits - followed by deep-dive conversations merging what they've learned from instruction with their personal experiences while at the museums. Through these experiences, students will produce their own artivism which will be used to illuminate their own unique personal stories.

This program is geared for high school-aged youth, ages 13-18.
