While other parks in San Diego have benefited from significant upgrades, Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park has been left behind, gradually deteriorating despite its vital role in City Heights.
But that's all about to change!
Mid-City CAN's Youth Council’s campaign to revitalize this centerpiece space kicked off in January 2023, and their advocacy has paid off in a big way. Thanks to their efforts, the park has received $1.75 million in funding from the City of San Diego's budget as well as an arts grant from Arts in California Parks.
This is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this beloved community hub!
-- New trees were planted on August 2024 and we're looking to add more!
-- Youth have been working with the San Diego Parks and Recreation department regarding the design for the new state-of-the-art playgrounds!
-- The restrooms have been in dire need of attention and we’ve got some plans to give them the upgrade they deserve.
-- We’re teaming up with award-winning organizations like The AjA Project and Playful Learning, San Diego Parks and Recreation, and Arts in California Parks.
Get ready for a transformation that’s sure to wow the community!
Join us for Session 2 of our Planning Event to learn about the park's future and share your thoughts!
There will be activities to provide input for the first draft of potential art pieces. We’ve got four exciting stations for you and your kids to explore and discover all the amazing features coming to the park including the new playgrounds! Grab a passport, visit each station, get your stamps, and treat yourself to free ice cream and other fun goodies!
