Goal:
The Artivism 2025 Summer Program will focus on learning how to use art and creativity for advocacy. This year, students will create paper-mache “puppets” to create a public theatre as a stage for their voices. Throughout the 4 weeks, students will learn how to paper-mache, use art as a tool for political and personal expression, and develop storytelling skills. The theme of the project will be decided on collectively during the first week, but will be about local issues such as gentrification and/or immigration. In addition, students will develop public speaking, project management, and teamworking skills.
At the end of the program, students will finish making two large scale parade puppets that can be used in parades or marches of any kind. Each puppet will talk about civil liberties such as due process, freedom of speech and assembly.
