Restorative Practices in CA Schools

Join us to celebrate the 1st annual Restorative Practices in Schools Awareness Month.

Mid-City CAN advocated for Assembly Concurrent Resolution-8, authored by Assemblymember Weber, which calls for improved school climate for California's students through restorative practices and restorative justice methods. Restorative practices and restorative justice emphasize repairing the harm done to people and relationships, rather than strictly focusing on punishing offenders. Restorative approaches lead to greater community healing and understanding, which is neglected by institutional punitive methods, often leading students to be placed on the school to prison pipeline.

This resolution is a significant first step towards meaningful state legislation designed to healing harm, strengthening communities, and nurture youth in California schools.

Light food and refreshments will be available so please join us and tell us how restorative justice has helped you or anyone you know.

Presentations by:

  • Assemblymember Shirley Weber
  • San Diego Unified School District Board President Sharon Whitehurst-Payne
  • Mid-City CAN Executive Director Diana Ross
