Hi community, 

Our next Youth Justice Momentum Team meeting will be held at Mid-City CAN (5th floor, Suite #550) on Thursday, July 31st, 2025 at 5:30PM. 

During the last few months, we have had the opportunity to connect around issues that youth in our communities face as they navigate the justice system.

We have had the privilege of hearing powerful stories from OYCR's Youth Advisory Board members, some of who are currently incarcerated. 

We've sat in circle and listened to our own youth share their visions for a different world and have even heard one of our interns, Mariah, share her poetry. 

Last month, Youth Empowerment welcomed us into their office home and led a powerful activity where we remembered the power of community and the need to pull our own weight in this fight so that we can continue pushing towards a safer, healthier society.

This month, we put our minds, hearts and spirits to work and brainstorm best practices in the Youth Justice landscape. 

We also leave room for some education on EGI (Ending Girls' Incarceration) campaign and themes/concept relevant in the work (gender responsive programming, community care, diversion v deflection, etc.).

This will be a working session. We invite you to come ready to engage in critical dialogue and share your visions for a better world.

The Youth Justice Momentum Team is a space for anyone and everyone who considers themselves an advocate for all youth in our communities. 

We imagine a world free of prisons where our youth grow to be empowered, loving and kind adults. 

Through community led organizing, we believe it is possible.

Nuestra próxima reunión de Justicia Juvenil se llevará a cabo en Mid-City CAN (quinto piso, Suite #550) el jueves 31 de julio de 2025 a las 5:30 PM.

Durante los últimos meses, hemos tenido la oportunidad de conectar en torno a los temas que enfrentan lxs jóvenes en nuestras comunidades mientras navegan el sistema de justicia.

Hemos tenido el privilegio de escuchar historias poderosas de miembros de la Junta Asesora Juvenil de OYCR, algunxs de lxs cuales están actualmente encarceladxs.

Nos hemos sentado en círculo y escuchado a nuestra propia juventud compartir sus visiones para un mundo diferente, e incluso escuchamos a una de nuestras practicantes, Mariah, compartir su poesía.

El mes pasado, Youth Empowerment nos dio la bienvenida en su oficina y guió una actividad poderosa donde recordamos la fuerza de la comunidad y la necesidad de cargar con nuestra parte en esta lucha para poder seguir avanzando hacia una sociedad más segura y saludable.

Este mes, pondremos a trabajar nuestra mente, corazón y espíritu para pensar en las mejores prácticas dentro del campo de la justicia juvenil.

También dejaremos espacio para educación sobre la campaña de EGI (Acabar con el Encarcelamiento de Niñas) y temas/conceptos relevantes para este trabajo (programación con enfoque de género, cuidado comunitario, desvío vs. desviación, etc.).

Esta será una sesión de trabajo. Te invitamos a venir preparadx para participar en un diálogo crítico y compartir tus visiones para un mundo mejor.

El Equipo de Justicia Juvenil es un espacio para cualquier persona que se considere defensora de lxs jóvenes en nuestras comunidades.
