We're excited to be hosting a presentation by our very own Ruben Alarcon from the Prison Arts Collective this month during our Youth Justice Momentum Team meeting on Thursday, March 26th, 2026 at 5PM in City Heights. 

Join us as we hear about the transformative power of the art making process through a lived experienced lens. 

We hope to see you there and continue local youth justice organizing efforts within the Youth Justice Momentum Team.

Your voice is important in working towards a world where no young person is criminalized.

About Ruben Alarcon:

Rubén Alarcón is a student intern at the Institute for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Justice at San Diego State University. He holds a Associate’s of Arts degree in Liberal Arts: Fine Arts & Humanities from Feather River College and is finishing his BA in Journalism in 2026. He brings his lived experience as a formerly incarcerated person to offer a different perspective that will best serve the justice impacted community.

Prison Arts Collective (PAC) believes in art as a human right and the capacity of art to cultivate community and positive change. PAC is dedicated to expanding access to the transformative power of art to people experiencing incarceration through partnerships with California state universities. PAC is headquartered at San Diego State University with partnerships at CSU San Bernardino and Humboldt State University. PAC evolved out of socially-engaged art and community advocacy. Through University-Prison partnerships, PAC draws on the expertise and research of faculty, the energy and enthusiasm of students, and a dedicated staff to provide visual and interdisciplinary arts programming in California prisons. Acompáñennos para descubrir el poder transformador del proceso de creación artística desde la perspectiva de la experiencia vivida.

Esperamos contar con su presencia y continuar con las iniciativas locales de organización por la justicia juvenil dentro del Equipo de Justicia Juvenil.

Sobre Rubén Alarcón:

Rubén Alarcón es pasante en el Instituto de Artes, Humanidades y Justicia Social de la Universidad Estatal de San Diego (San Diego State University). Posee un título de Asociado en Artes (AA) en Artes Liberales —con especialización en Bellas Artes y Humanidades— por el Feather River College, y finalizará su Licenciatura en Periodismo en 2026. Aporta su experiencia vivida como persona que estuvo encarcelada, ofreciendo así una perspectiva diferente que servirá de la mejor manera a la comunidad afectada por el sistema de justicia.

El Colectivo de Artes Penitenciarias (PAC) cree en el arte como un derecho humano y en su capacidad para fomentar la comunidad y el cambio positivo.
