Mid-City CAN's Youth Council members have been working hard on their campaign to upgrade Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park. On Tuesday, June 10 City Council approved the $2.5M funding for Henwood Park and the next step is for Mayor Todd Gloria to sign the finalized budget!
After all the advocacy and speaking during the May budget hearings, they were ready for a break before heading back to City Hall for more hearings in June.
From Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1, the youth embarked on a fun-filled and memorable trip to Campland on the Bay in San Diego! Over the course of the weekend, the youth immersed themselves in a variety of exciting outdoor activities: they kayaked and paddle-boated across calm waters, swam under the sun and relaxed in the hot tub. There were moments of laughter and connection around the campfire playing Mafia, painting, poetry and journaling, and more. And of course, they enjoyed lots of delicious food — three hearty meals a day!
Youth were also introduced to the "7 Types of Rest" that every person needs:
- Physical rest
- Mental rest
- Sensory rest
- Creative rest
- Emotional rest
- Social rest
- Spiritual rest
Thank you Campland on the Bay for an amazing fun time! Youth Council are excited to head back!
